Luxury Apartment
in the Heart of Medieval Rome
Sleeps 5 with 2 bedrooms and
2 baths
Big group? Neighboring
Landini
apartment sleeps 6
Location
The Fontana apartment is located
on a small piazza where one of Rome's most
charming little fountains can be found. The
piazza is like a delightful discovery, set off from the
bustling streets of Rome. It is located what was
once known as the Jewish Ghetto of Rome. Today
this neighborhood is well known for the many wonderful
restaurants. The Fontana
apartment is in an excellent historic center
location, only a few blocks from the popular
Campo' de Fiori and Piazza Navona. Campo de' Fiori
is Rome's most famous open air market for fresh
produce and flowers.
Building
The building is a Roman
"palazzo" that has been home to an
Italian noble family for many centuries and is
very well maintained. The apartment is located on
the 6th floor, U.S. designation, and has an
elevator.
Interior Description
A very special feature of this
apartment is the small terrace off the dining
area, where guests can enjoy meals al fresco. It's
a delightful spot, nicely furnished with wrought
iron patio table and chairs. Connected to this
terrace by a spiral staircase is a second, upper
unfurnished terrace, where you can take in
beautiful views of Rome. Off in the distance you
can even see the dome of St. Peter's basilica.
From the nice-sized entry way,
you enter the comfortable living room that is
tastefully furnished with a high quality sofa and
two arm chairs, accented with some very nice
antique pieces of furniture. Under a high window
is an antique desk. The walls have been
painted a warm yellow which makes the room very
inviting.
The dining and kitchen areas are
four steps down from the living room. French doors
open onto the sunny terrace. The antique dining
table has upholstered chairs for four. For larger
groups, an matching armchair from the living room
provides supplemental seating at the dining table.
The kitchen is fully modernized with limestone
countertops and rich red custom cabinets. It has a
refrigerator with freezer compartment, 4-burner
gas stove, electric oven, microwave, drip
coffeemaker and dishwasher.
Each of the bedrooms has a set
of French doors opening out onto a very narrow
balcony that admits lots of light throughout. The
master bedroom has a canopied queen bed and is
furnished is warm gold tones. Just outside the
master bedroom is the master bathroom, accessed
off the hallway. The second bedroom has two twin
beds and in addition to the French doors, it also
has a window overlooking the terrace.
The master bathroom is quite
roomy and has a bathtub with sprayer attachment, a
sink, bidet and toilet. The second bathroom is
small with a shower, sink, bidet and toilet. Both
were refreshed in terms of painting and tile work
in 2008.
Rent includes one hour of housekeeping each weekday.

We had a wonderful time in Rome and
thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Fontana
apartment. It was very spacious, comfortable,
well-equipped and in a great location. The
photos don't do it justice. The palazzo sits
in a charming square that was just off the
beaten track and surprisingly quiet.
The owner was extremely gracious and
helpful. As well as explaining how everthing
worked in the apartment, he gave us a walking
tour of the neighborhood pointing out grocery
stores, banks, taxis, etc. Everything you
might need is within 5 minutes. The welcoming
gift of wine and fresh fruit was most
appreciated.
It was very hot when we were there (35+C)
so were glad to come back to an
air-conditioned apartment. The rooms cooled
down very quickly. Despite the heat, we still
used the terraces daily - breakfast on the
lower terrace, and early evening drinks on the
upper terrace. I was abit concerned it would
be too hot because there were no umbrellas but
both areas were shaded at these times. We
loved starting and ending our days on the
terraces.
It was also nice to have the daily
housekeeping - something that isn't usually
included in apartment rentals.
We thought the area/neighborhood was great
and convenient to the sites. We walked almost
everywhere and used the taxi/bus stand that
was 5 minutes away. Being cat lovers - we
enjoyed visiting the cat sanctuary that was
right beside the taxis. We especially enjoyed
the Pantheon area, and Piazza Navona area
(each about 10 minutes away). Both were lively
in the evenings with lots of restaurants and
live entertainment. If you're looking for
knock-off handbags, sunglasses, watches, etc.
Piazza Navona had a great selection! There
were also lots of Jewish restaurants near the
Teatro Marcello where in the summer you can
enjoy outdoor classical music concerts. We
didn't actually attend a concert but could
still hear some of the music at the outdoor
restaurants. Also, be sure to cross the bridge
and visit Trastevere - we did the Rick Steves
walk through the area and really enjoyed it.
In terms of problems - nothing major. We
had minor problems with slow water drainage in
the shower. We also felt that a new frypan may
be in order as the "non-stick" part
was almost completely off. A nice
addition to the terraces might be some
cushions for the wrought iron chairs as well
as an umbrella. [All of these issues are being
addressed. Pat]
Overall, I would
recommend this apartment and Excellent Europe
and would gladly stay here again. Thanks for
your help and personal phone calls - an
unexpected but welcome touch.

Excellent! We loved this apartment.
The neighborhood was great -- very accessible
to all of the sites but also tucked away and
much quieter. The apartment was very nicely
decorated and well-appointed -- we found the
bedrooms very comfortable and the large
kitchen to have everything that we needed (and
we used it often to cook all the wonderful
food we bought at the Campo de' Fiori!). We
spent much of our time on the sunny terraces,
which are absolutely fabulous. The owner was
very helpful and pleasant (he took us on a
tour of the neighborhood when we arrived and
drove us to our next apartment when we - sadly
- had to leave). The daily maid service was
another very nice feature. We would certainly
go back to this apartment if we stayed in Rome
again and were very sad to leave it! Enjoyed
most the location/neighborhood, the terraces.
Fantastic. Try the "stratchiamou" (stratchiatella
with nutella) flavour at the gelatto shop on
the Via del Portico d'Ottavia. Have a granita
from Tazza d'Oro and a cappuccino from the
Caffe St. Eustachio. Shop (early) at the Campo
de' Fiori and try the pizza bianco from the
Forno (Campo De' Fiori, 22). I am so glad that
I found your website. We enjoyed both
apartments (particularly the Fontana which I
would love to return to) and will certainly
email you the next time we go to Rome. Thank
you again for all of your help, especially for
accommodating us at the last minute.

The accommodations were just fine. Actually
larger rooms than we expected. We enjoyed the
history of the palace and the location. No
problems at all. The location was perfect for
us, centrally located, to just about everywhere
we wanted to go. And, if we didn't want to
walk, the bus stop and taxi stand was just a
block away. We especially liked the square we
were on, - with the bakery, cafe, gelatoria
and restaurants. We were there so often that
we were "locals" in just a few days
time. We think an apartment is the way to go,
especially if you are in one location for more
than 4 or 5days. For our family of 4, it's a
neccessity. Actually, we thought your service
really was "excellent" The docs you
sent us were exactly timely and
"right-on" target, like the
"Italian telephone" document. With
no conceriege on site, your written info and
advice were very useful. Thanks a lot!!" Chris
